Sinister stamps?

Your article (28 September) on the latest issue of postage stamps featuring Harry Potter and friends was very interesting and should gladden the heart of any stamp collector.

However, perhaps one of your readers could enlighten me on one point. The Queen’s head is shown on the top left hand corner of the stamp, but she is facing to the right. Why is she facing the opposite way from her image on the current issue of stamps? I had always understood that each monarch faced to the opposite side from his or her predecessor.
