Any old irony?
Carole Ford says that another independence referendum is “an unlikely event” (Letters 28 September). However, for a significantnumberofthepopulation this event is not only likely, it is inevitable.
Ms Ford seems conflicted when she then contends that endorsement of a rerun of the EU referendum will put the SNP in a tricky position in the event (unlikely or otherwise) of a future vote for independence, as the people would demand a third confirmatory vote on the terms of independence. What she studiously ignores is the irony and hypocrisy of the Liberal Democrats saying that the people of the UK are entitled to a second vote in an EU referendum two years after the first vote while arrogantly stating that the will of the people of Scotland was irrevocably settled in 2014 regardless of any changes in political circumstances.
