Unlike Scotland head coach Shelley Kerr, I am not a huge fan of Nicola Sturgeon’s leadership skills and, while the SNP First Minister has embraced Tory austerity policies and has starved local authorities of much-needed funding, I am at a complete loss to understand why she feels the need to fund the Scottish Ladies Football team.

I would be interested to know from which budget this money has been taken. Surely ladies’ football should be securing funding from company sponsors and football clubs.

Ms Sturgeon is the patron of the Scottish Ladies Team but that gives her no right to use public money to support a very wealthy sport.
