Stadium standoff
The decision to play both Betfred Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park on the same day was described as “absolutely nonsensical” last night as politicians joined former players in voicing safety and transport fears.
Nothing wrong with the decision, it’s just football folks nobody is going in for
brain surgery followed by immediate heart surgery, it isn’t life threatening, it isn’t even nearly important, it is just football. Time constraints have caused this issue and like all industries you do what has to be done given the time available, you just get it done. That is how the real world works, so let’s stop moaning about nothing and let the players do what they are paid to do.
Med One Well, play one on Saturday and one on Sunday, it’s only a game of football.
Rudlpf Hucker But people like football.some people love it, so much so that they follow their teams all over the world. For them it is a crisis. I hope I would never belittle someone else’s passions as being ‘just’ anything. It’s pretty arrogant.
Sparts Apart from the fact that that Aberdeen fans will be pushed to get to Hampden by kickoff given train timetables and Hearts fans, given the normal transport foul-ups around Hampden, will be pushed to get home before midnight. The fact of the matter is that the SFA and SPFL could well have seen the possible problems with having the semis set for 28 October well in advance given the known European schedules. As a Hibee-supporting friend pointed out to me, last night what would have happened with the semis had Aberdeen and Hibs progressed in Europe?
Jambo25 Being “contractually obliged” to play both matches at Hampden is the cause of this farcical situation. The issue is nothing to do with accommodating certain clubs, but is about security. The potential for serious problems in Glasgow on that day should be considered by government. Murrayfield is available, and the obvious solution.
