Driver banned for 10 years af­ter killing cy­clist

A mo­torist who killed a cy­clist in Fife was spared prison and banned from driv­ing for ten years.

David Gor­don, 56, over­took when it was un­safe to do so and hit Gary Christie on his moun­tain bike.

Fa­ther-of-two Mr Christie, 38, was se­ri­ously in­jured and died in hospi­tal two weeks later.

Gor­don was found guilty last month of caus­ing death by care­less driv­ing in Kirk­caldy on 1 Novem­ber 2016.

Lord Men­zies ruled yes­ter­day at the High Court in Ed­in­burgh Gor­don would also do 300 hours un­paid work.
