Key hiring as EY expands its pensions advisory practice

● EY has expanded its pensions advisory practice with the appointmen­t of Jamie Mackenzie as new lead for Scotland. The firm said the strategic investment in its growing transactio­n advisory services business continued with the appointmen­t of Mackenzie as head of pensions covenant advisory. Mackenzie, a chartered accountant and an accredited mediator with the Centre of Effective Dispute Resolution, has more than ten years’ experience of providing strategic pensions advice to trustees, corporates, investors, government and regulators, in relation to defined benefit pension schemes. Prior to joining EY, he spent a decade working in London for Grant Thornton’s pensions advisory team, during which time he was recognised as a rising star by Accountanc­y Age within their “35 under 35” role of honour.

Phil Merchant has been appointed audit partner and will spearhead the firm’s 80-strong financial services audit team in Scotland. The promotion follows significan­t growth for the practice in Scotland. Merchant, who has been with the firm for 19 years, said: “KPMG’S work with financial services clients continues to

● Aberdeen-headquarte­red Deep Casing Tools has appointed Andrew Wilson to the newly-created position of global sales and operations manager and Tessa Scott as European sales manager. Wilson will head up implementi­ng a new business delivery model driving greater alignment between sales and operations teams to provide service excellence to customers. This new approach is part of the company’s growth strategy in Europe, the Middle East and North America, following significan­t investment from EV Private Equity earlier this year. As part of the delivery of this strategy, Wilson has added to his team with the appointmen­t of Scott.

● Edinburgh technology start-up and physiother­apy practice Better Humans is pleased to welcome two new members to the team. Lauren Scott joins as a massage therapist and has a background in fitness and personal training. Also joining as a massage therapist is Nikola Cheyne. The appointmen­ts follow the recent opening of new offices in the capital.
