Hibs close in on treble after sinking Glasgow

- By ALAN CAMPBELL

Hibernian remain on course for the treble after goals from Kirsten Reilly and captain Joelle Murray steered them to a 2-1 SSE Scottish Women’s Cup semi-final win over Glasgow City.

They will meet Motherwell, who beat Spartans 3-1, in the final at Firhill on November 4.

Hibs will be hot favourites to win their third successive Scottish Cup against the SWPL2 champions, and they play City again on Sunday in what seems set to be a winnertakes-all match for the SBS SWPL1 title.

Before that game City travel to Barcelona for Wednesday’s last-16 Champions League tie and a scout from the Catalonia club was at Forthbank Stadium yesterday.

Scott Booth’s side started well but fell behind when they failed to defend

Rachel Mclauchlan’s cross into the box properly, allowing Reilly to score from close range.

Hibs were put under pressure at the start of the second half, with Ludija Kulis hitting a post and Sam Kerr twice coming close – but the more City chased the equaliser the more vulnerable they became on the counter.

Hibs doubled their lead through Murray eight minutes from time, and although a Siobhan Hunter own goal gave City late hope, Hibs saw things out.

Motherwell won promotion in August and a great season continued when they reached their first Scottish Cup final. Megan Burns opened the scoring after 11 minutes but Tegan Reynolds equalised for Spartans. Kerry Montgomery made it 2-1 early in the second half and Caitlin Russell got the third ten
