#PEOPLESVOTE
Holyrood became the first UK parliament to back a People’s Vote on Wednesday when a majority of MSPS supported a referendum on the terms of the Brexit deal. Much of the chat online was about what this would mean for the SNP and their quest for independence.
@realjonconnor said: “The SNP are very much like the Lib Dems, will say anything to keep power.”
@Forresdee said: “For what’s its worth I think the SNP were wrong to back a People’s Vote. It’ll only be used against them if they win the next Indy vote.”
@Expattory said: “Can we have a People’s Vote if the SNP win an independence referendum?”
@Sconeof said: “I like the idea that the SNP only back a People’s Vote if they get a guarantee of power to hold an indyref.”
@Jamesross530 said: “It’s important SNP don’t use Brexit for indyref2 whereby they’ll be accused of wanting a bad deal. A People’s Vote and further evidence Scotland is being ignored is a good basis for indyref2.”
@Nottimorous said: “I don’t think the SNP had much choice other than to back a People’s Vote. Brexit is a runaway train that needs to be stopped. We can support a People’s Vote & Scottish independence. The two are not mutually exclusive. We need to be inclusive first.”
#LENNON
Nicola Sturgeon has joined the growing number of voices who have condemned the attack on Hibs manager Neil Lennon during the recent Edinburgh Derby at Tynecastle, where the Northern Irishman was hit by a coin from the stands. Ms Sturgeon said he conducted himself with “great dignity” throughout the incident, which some have suggested was motivated by sectarianism.
@Angeblue55 said: “Pity same can’t be said for his actions before it.”
@lizcampbell41 said: “Dignity? Does she know what the word means?”
@mendrinkmilk said: “There’s been 4 coins thrown in recent weeks. Have we to believe that only one had sectarian intentions? Playing to her gallery.”
@edinburgh_75 said: “It’s pathetic that in this country you can be abused by bigots and it’s all your own fault. There’s absolutelyno justification for abusing someone because of their religion. There’s plenty of footballers or managers I don’t like, none of them are because of their religion.”
@Andypurd said: “Well said Nicola. Now let’s think about getting tougher on these sectarian morons. Scotland had turned a blind eye for too long.”
@cultfree54 said: “I am sorry: Mr Lennon may not have his troubles to seek. But he brings too much difficulty on himself by unnecessary outbursts of belligerence.”
