Alfred can be king again

● Four-year-old ready to rule the roost at Newcastle

- By GLENDALE

Alfred Richardson did it very easily on his latest visit to Newcastle and must have every chance of following up on his return to Gosforth Park.

Since opening his account for the year at Wetherby in June, the John Davies-trained four-year-old has run some fine races in defeat, most notably finishing third in the lucrative final of the Straight-mile Series at Redcar.

Switching back to the allweather for the first time since March 2017 a shade over three weeks ago, Alfred Richardson was held up towards the rear of the field after a tardy start, but sliced through the field before pulling clear. The handicap per has handed him an 8 lb rise in the weights – but with just three all-weather runs under his belt, the sunracing. co.uk Handicap looks a good opportunity for him to add to his tally.

Twilight has enjoyed a fine season on turf and can continue her excellent run of form in the Ladbrokes Home Of The Odds Boost Fillies’ Handicap.

Tim Easterby’s filly was rated just 50 when opening her account at Catterick in early August. But subsequent triumphs at Leicester, Hamilton and then back at Leicester again have seen her climb to a mark of 73.

She comes into her latest assignment suitably fresh after a month off the track, and should prove hard to beat.

One of last season’s leading novice hurdlers Kalashnikov is the star attraction at Warwick. Declared in the £50 Risk Free on racing with s markets Novices’ Chase, a clear round should see him oblige given he is already one of the favourites for the Arkle in March.

He managed to win the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury before going down narrowly to Summerville Boy in the Supreme at Cheltenham.

Given his size, chasing was always likely to be his forte and he looks one of the most exciting prospects in the game.
