The chase is on for Aristo at Kelso

- GORDON BROWN

By One-time Champion Hurdle fancy Aristo Du Plessis is one of four declared for the John Wade Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase on a bumper eightrace card at Kelso today.

Trained by James Ewart, his only previous start over fences came when fifth at Cheltenham in October 2016 under Richard Johnson.

Langholm-based Ewart said: “I believe when we tried him over fences before he hadn’t fully recovered from a spinal operation. If he shows enough agility I really think he could make a decent two-mile chaser – he is an outstanding, tough little horse and, hopefully, the best is still to come.”

Among the opposition to Aristo Du Plessis is Cool Mix, a course winner over hurdles for Dumfriesshire trainer Iain Jardine, and a very promising runner-up on his chase debut at Wetherby last month.

Also in the line-up is Horst, who makes his debut for Micky Hammond having shown winning form in his native France on the Flat and over hurdles and fences.

Hammond also saddles Justforjames, bottom-weight under Becky Smith in the Enjoy The Jumps On Racing UK Handicap Chase.

At Doncaster, Buzz can end an incredible week for Hughie Morrison by bringing down the curtain on the Flat season with victory in the Marathonbet November Handicap.

The East Ilsley handler endured the agony of watching Marmelo finish second in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday but can at least have the satisfaction of ending the domestic campaign on a high.

Buzz heads to Town Moor on the back of a success at Newbury in September over a mile and a quarter on soft ground.

He only got up in the very last stride and will be much more at home over a mile and a half, having won over this distance in July. Being by Motivator, Buzz will not mind any cut in the ground.

Donjuan Triumphant can take advantage of a drop in grade to get his head in front for the first time in over a year in the Marathonbet Official Global Partner Of Manchester City Wentworth Stakes.
