Ayr focus on the positives not thoughts of revenge

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Championship leaders Ayr United host Queen of the South with the Honest Men out to avoid what happened the last time they were sitting at the summit and came up against the Doonhamers.

The Honest Men left Dumfries with their tail between their legs after losing 5-0 but manager Ian Mccall reckons what happened afterwards is more important than the defeat.

Mccall explained: “I cannot take anything from Queen of the South as they played very well and deserved their win. Whilst it was not a fluke result, a truer reflection would have been 9-4 as we created chances as well.”

“However, once that game was over, the important thing was to bounce back and the players did that really well. They won their next two league games as they have done when we had set-back this season.”

“As a result, this game is not about revenge or anything like that, it is all about getting another three points on the board.”

Queen’s boss Gary Naysmith said: “We played really well that day but I am not getting fooled by the score-line. I watched it back recently and both sides created chances. We found the net whereas Ayr’s efforts were blocked or deflected wide, so we will not be going there thinking we are in for an easy game.”

“Ayr are this season’s Livingston in that people are predicting that they will blow up after a fantastic start. I think they will be involved at the top for the long haul, so this will be a tough afternoon.”

Dunfermline will look to push closer to the promotion-chasing pack at the expense of bottom-of-thetable Falkirk at East End Park. Pars boss Allan Johnston said: “If we want to be challenging in the top half of the table then we need to be beating the teams below us.”

Bairns manager Ray Mckinnon said: “We have made progress and it was disappointing to only get one point from our games against the top two of Ross County and then Ayr.”
