Rangers 7 Motherwell 1 Ibrox side close gap on leaders to two points

Steven Gerrard refused to dwell on his team’s upwardly mobile status after his Rangers side’s 7-1 crushing of Motherwell moved them up to third in the Premiershi­p and within two points of leaders Celtic, who sit above Hearts on goal difference, writes Andrew Smith.

The Ibrox manager conceded that the two points dropped by the Scottish champions in yesterday’s earlier kick-off at Livingston, and the Tynecastle club’s loss to Kilmarnock the previous day, played into his team’s hands.

As did a red card shown to Motherwell captain Carl Mchugh for a handball offence that brought his second yellow card and allowed Rangers to move 2-1 ahead in the 34th minute.

However, Gerrard, who revealed that Connor Goldson missed the match

0 Joy for James Tavernier as his penalty conversion puts Rangers 2-1 up against Motherwell. The Ibrox side went on to win 7-1.
