Scot actor Gerard Butler loses Malibu pad in fire
Scots film star Gerard Butler is among a host of Hollywood A-listers to have been affected by the deadly wildfires currently raging across northern and southern California.
The Paisley-born actor returned to his Malibu home after being evacuated to find it reduced to a burned-out shell.
He shared images on social media of himself wearing a dust mask around his face as he examined the charred remains of his house and truck.
He paid tribute to emergency services in the state.
On Twitter, he wrote: “Heartbreaking time across California. Inspired as ever by the courage, spirit and sacrifice of firefighters.”
He thanked the Los Angeles Fire Department and appealed for his followers to show their support by donating to the organisation.
The intense blazes have so far claimed the lives of 31 people across California – 29 in the north and two in the south – and destroyed hundreds of properties.
More than 250,000 people, including the entire city of Malibu, have responded to evacuation orders.
Pop queen Miley Cyrus and singer and songwriter Neil Young also lost properties in the Malibu area Other celebrities such as Will Smith, Lady Gaga and the Kardashians have also been affected.
Fans were quick to share their sympathy with Butler.
One wrote: “I’m so sorry this hashappenedtoyouandmany others. Just remember things can be replaced but we can’t.”
Another added: “So sorry but so glad you’re safe. Sending love from Scotland”
