The owner of British Airways is understood to be seeking the support of the Spanish government in the event of a no-deal Brexit. International Airlines Group has asked for the Spanish government’s help to retain its operating rights should the UK leave the European Union without a deal, according to reports.
@Jonathanhaynes tweeted: “Brexit to make British Airways Spanish? Is this what people voted for?”
@mustapipa joked: “What next? Royal family to be sold to the Chinese?”
@Knudjahnke wrote: “This is a perfect reminder that on the level of really large companies there is nothing ‘national’. Only middlesize and small companies can’t move some offices to somewhere else.”
@Mxemjackson1 commented: “British Iberian Airlines: Getting #Britain flying between the Rock and a hard place.”
@Mayawinterssms posted: “That says more about the people in charge of BA than Brexit. It’s the so-called elites protecting their own interests and not respecting a democratic vote.”
#GORDONBROWN
Gordon Brown has backed the Scottish Government and SNP over post-brexit devolution, warning that UK ministers have put the Union at risk by holding on to powers returning from Brussels. The Labour ex-prime Minister said devolved nations should be able to have their own relationship with the EU distinct from the rest of the UK in areas under their control.
@rantandtruth said: “A fantastic speech by Gordon Brown on the realities of Britain’s weaker international position and internal conflict after Brexit. I defy anyone to refute his points on influence, investment and the devolving of power.”
@1984utdkidswife tweeted: “It would be a travesty if we sold our gold at rock bottom prices, spent beyond our means, turned a blind eye to the banks and then nearly bankrupted the country. Now that would be a travesty wouldn’t it Gordon?”
@Indy2thereturn replied to Brown: “No the travesty of Democracy was your part in Better Together Scotindyref & the VOW. What was it you promised, ‘as near a Federal Britain as it was possible to get short of full Independence’? You were a chancer then and nothing’s changed. Who would listen to anything you have to say.”
