Former PM escapes after summons
Macedonia’s ruling party has accused conservative former prime minister Nikola Gruevski, who evaded arrest for a corruption conviction, of making a “cowardly escape” amid reports he had fled to Hungary.
Police yesterday continued the search for the 48-year-old politician who ignored a summons on Monday to appear at a Skopje prison to serve a two-year sentence.
The ruling Social Democrat party, in a statement, called Guevski’s behaviour “disgraceful”. A post appeared on Gruevski’s Facebook page claiming he was in Budapest seeking asylum after death threats.
