The wider view
Brian Bannatyne-scott (Letters, 13 November) claims that most nationalists are not anglophobes, then in a blaze of hypocrisy complains that domestic – ie British – news on TV is often concerned only with England. As a Scot and a Brit, I keep abreast of current affairs across the UK and welcome daily coverage of developments in England. When I want Scottish news I watch the relevant programmes on BBC and STV. That way I get the best of both worlds.
Let me reassure Mr Bannatyne-scott that I share his vision of a nation that is inclusive and fair-minded. The difference between us is that my concern reaches far beyond the Tweed. I see the people of Berwick and Bournemouth, Carlisle and Cardiff as fellowcitizens whose lives concern me; for him they are strangers whose concerns must be banished from our screens and from our minds.
