Candy’s sweet success for Mcmanus
The famous yellow and gold colours of JP Mcmanus were carried to victory by Kimberlite Candy in the feature race at Ayr yesterday.
Trained by Tom Lacey in Herefordshire, the six-year-old gelding was sent off 5-2 favourite on his first run since winning at Chepstow in April. Ridden prominently by Richie Mclernon, he got every yard of the 3m 20y handicap chase in testing conditions to win by two and three quarter lengths from Silver Tassie.
Another long-distance traveller to win was Casual Cavalier, trained by henry oliver in worcestershire, who overcame patchy jumping to rally before the last to win the 2m 110y handicap chase from Instingtive and justify his 11-4 favouritism.
Irish trainer Gordon Elliott saddled the first winner on the card in Cold Shoulder, the 11-4 favourite, who oozed class in the 2m 3f handicap hurdle and pulled clear on the run-in. l Matthew Taylor, Racecourse Services Executive at the Racecourse Association (RCA), has been appointed as Racing Manager and trainee Clerk of the Course at Perth Racecourse.
Harriet Graham will continue as Raceday Clerk of the Course until Taylor has completed his training.
