Plans for Paris to go pedestrian
Landmarks such as Notre Dame Cathedral would become nearly traffic free under plans to pedestrianise the centre of Paris.
The mayor of the French capital is planning to severely restrict traffic in the city’s first four districts, known as arrondissements.
Electric shuttles would replace existing means of transport.
The landmark move would happen in mayor Anne Hidalgo’s next term if she is re-elected.
Ms Hidalgo has made reducing pollution a central part of her policy.
Traffic is limited in the central arrondissements on one Sunday a month.
