Sixth quarter of growth for supermarket major Asda
Asda has notched up its sixth consecutive quarter of sales growth after a further increase in the three months to the end of September.
Comparable sales at the supermarket giant, which is planning a merger with rival Sainsbury’s, were up 2 per cent in the period. Net sales were 3.7 per cent higher, as online grocery shopping grew by 13.8 per cent.
Asda boss Roger Burnley said: “In a challenging third quarter for the market we continued to focus on the areas that we know are important to our customers and deliver on our strategic priorities.”
The chain has expanded its own brand range amid a groceries price war triggered by Aldi and Lidl.
