Deal or no deal

-

European leaders could be willing to renegotiate a Brexit deal to keep the UK in the single market if Theresa May fails to get her draft agreement through the House of Commons, Nicola Sturgeon has said.

If we were to remain in the EU then the SNP’S sole pretext for indyref2 is removed. As the majority of the 62% Remainers in Scotland are also No voters then why should that bother us? Winwin. It’s the million plus Scots who voted to Leave that Sturgeon would have problems, with seeing as 40% of them are SNP supporters. My, she really has got herself in a fankle!

Paul Holyrood Nicola Sturgeon wants to throw out an agreement because it won’t be passed by Parliament, in favour of negotiating a deal which has even less chance of being passed ny Parliament.

Perhaps she should stick to the baby boxes, the nonbinary toilets in schools and the Gaelic signs on police cars. She seems to be quite good at that.

Arch Stainton Angela Merkel has said this is a good deal and is not up for negotiation.

Enough is Enough Her idea of a good deal is no big deal, just ask David Cameron. With typical Teutonic rigidity she wouldn’t budge on immigration, even though admitting the UK had special problems. This is the trouble with unions – you’re always a hostage to fortune.

Spartacus Same with countries, we have to suffer the SNP screwing up tax, education and the SNHS because of a minority of gullible and simple-minded people think by voting SNP they will get “freedom” (said with a fake Scottish accent).

Roastin’ There’s that “could” word,

offering her supporters the impression that she’s relevant. The EU, Barnier, Merkel et al have said “that’s the best you’re going to get”. Which shows in the world of real politics that the FM is out of touch.

Oldyun Sturgeon always has an answer for everything. Problem is, it’s usually the completely wrong one.

Mad Max the Pavement Warrior The EU have already said quite emphatically that the deal will not be renegotiable; in any case, remaining in the single market and customs union would involve accepting all of the EU rules etc in perpetuity, so we would be as well staying as full members and accepting what that involves.

Esox Hunter All Sturgeon has are the same tired old buzz phrases, and rhetoric, trying to put forward her wish list, without ever being able to influence the process. On Scottish issues, no problems at all, as far as Brexit issues are concerned, she cuts a rather pathetic, illinformed, poor man’s rebel.

Rhubarbthebushkangaroo Sturgeon is completely right, of course, in a Scottish context. Credit where it’s due. May has sacrificed herself on the altar of “duty” from Day One of her premiership. She’s battled like a wobbly jelly for a deal.
