Kebble tips Jones to rise to occasion

- By DUNCAN SMITH

Scotland’s big-game talisman Huw Jones has been backed to rediscover his mojo against the Springboks today by one of the men who knows him best.

Loosehead prop Oli Kebble, who shared a house with Jones in Cape Town when they both played for the Stormers and is now a flatmate in Glasgow, believes his friend will again rise to the big occasion in a dark blue jersey.

The centre played poorly in the opening November Test in Wales and wasn’t involved at all in last weekend’s 54-17 hammering of Fiji, but has been recalled to the No 13 jersey today as Scotland face South Africa.

“I think as we’ve seen in the past with Huw, in the big games for Scotland when it really counts he makes a real big difference for the team,” said Kebble.

Jones has enjoyed a stunning start to his cap career, with ten tries in 17 games, including a magnificent double in the thrilling Calcutta Cup win in February.

“I think he’ll be a great attacking threat for Scotland. His performances in the Six Nations were outstanding and his tryscoring record speaks for itself,” said Kebble. “I think he’s definitely someone the Springboks will be looking at quite closely because if they don’t take care of him they know he’ll be a threat.”
