First fashion diversity show to be staged at National Museum
Edinburgh is to play host to the first major exhibition exploring diversity in the fashion world.
Issues around age, size, gender, sexuality, race and disability will all be tackled at the National Museum of Scotland next year. The fivemonth show is billed as “a celebration of creativity and an uncompromising and important statement about the world today”.
It will highlight designers, models, stylists, photographers and editors. Body Beautiful: Diversity on the Catwalk, will recall milestone magazine covers and catwalk events, while exploring the growing impact of fashion bloggers and social media influencers.
Pam Hogg, Jeanpaul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Rick Owens, Walter Van Beirendonck and Charles Jeffrey are among the designers expected to befeatured. Othersinclude Teatum Jones, who has created work inspired by Paralympian Natasha Baker, and Antonio Urzi, who has worked with wheelchair users. The exhibition will feature garments, photography and film, magazine covers and recorded interviews.
