The Prime Minister is defending her Brexit deal amid reports Tory rebels are close to achieving the 48 letters of no confidence necessary to trigger a vote on her leadership. Mrs May told Sky TV that the threshold for letters of no confidence needed to start a leadership battle had yet to be reached, and was backed up by the man who oversees the process, 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady.

@Pippacrerar reported: “Is this the day Brexiteer MPS finally get their vote of confidence in the PM? Still haven’t met many who actually think she’d lose it, though.”

@julianoneill wrote: “Govt will further mobilise business in support of Brexit deal today. Karen Bradley at another event in Belfast (as T May does CBI annual conf ). Bradley will say the choice is this “only workable deal” or ‘back to square one on Brexit’.”

@nickeardleybbc added: “‘The moment of truth is now upon us’ says Tory MP Simon Clarke, urging colleagues to send in letter of no confidence.”

@Bbcr4today stated: “Tory MP @Simonclarkemp – who has written a letter of no confidence in Theresa May – says “the captain is driving the ship at the rocks” and if action is not taken, the government “won’t be in place” in a few weeks because it will lose the support of the DUP.” @Lizkershawdj wrote: “I don’t like her #Brexitwithdrawalagreement but I have every admiration for @theresa_may personally. She has guts, stamina and intellect. I despise the bullying she is being subjected to by the EU, her Parliamentary colleagues and the media.”

A no-deal Brexit would be “catastrophic” for Scotland, according to David Mundell. The Scottish Secretary said he would not view such a scenario as being acceptable for the country.

@cah813 tweeted: “‘No deal is better than a bad deal’, well, that statement did not last long!”

@Emackintosh1 added: “David Mundell this morning basically saying that he is supporting a Brexit deal that leaves Scotland worse off – even after saying he would resign over different circumstances for Scotland. Zero credibility left...”

@jrmaidment posted: “Becoming clearer by the day that Parliament will not allow a no-deal departure.”

@Zarkwan wrote: “That’s odd. He said exactly the same things about leaving the EU in the first place. As did Ruth Davidson.”

@Kjkitson wrote: “Ooo ..... if Theresa May resigns just before “I’m a Celeb” starts. This time next week she could be munching on kangaroo anus.”
