Siegrist aims to make it to the top at United

- By EUAN MCARTHUR

Benjamin Siegrist believes he has the attributes to make a big impact at Dundee United.

The Swiss has shone under Robbie Neilson in recent weeks and earned glowing praise from his manager fn their 1-0 win away to promotion rivals Ross County last weekend.

Siegrist, 26, came through the youth ranks at Aston Villa and has been a success since moving to Scotland in the summer where he’s made the No 1 jersey his own at Tannadice.

Now the goalkeeper, whose aiming for another clean sheet in tonight’s visit of Alloa, has revealed how watching the best in the business down south has helped him become a mainstay for the Tangerines.

Siegrist said: “I always felt Thibaut Courtois was someone to really respect and admire.

“I remember when he first came to Chelsea and he was only 21 or 22 but surprised everyone by eventuallyreplacingpetrcech, who was one of the top keepers at the time.

“I try to look and see what

boys like him do during games and learn from that.”

Siegrist came to the fore in United’s narrow victory away to County but is the first to admit their recent run of clean sheets isn’t all down to him.

He said: “It’s part of my job. The gaffer has told me that before when we have played in previous games and have been under the cosh.

“It’s encouraging to hear him say those nice things. It is good for me. It was great to get another clean sheet but we defend as a team and that starts with the boys up front.”

United are bidding to stretch their unbeaten run to six games under Neilson and are bracing themselves for a difficult encounter.

Siegrist said: “We will all need to stay switched on because they could be dangerous opponents.

“We are playing at home and that should be an advantage. You move on quickly and we are focused.”
