Queen and Prince Philip celebrate 71 years not out
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are celebrating a rare achievement – their 71st wedding anniversary.
The monarch was 21 when she married the dashing Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten at Westminster Abbey in 1947.
Their enduring relationship has lasted the longest of any British sovereign, and Philip has been at the Queen’s side throughout the decades, supporting her as she devotes herself to her role as head of state.
While the duke has retired from public duties, the Queen had an official engagement on the morning of their anniversary, when she visited the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in London to mark its own 150th anniversary.
Last year saw the Queen and Philip toast their milestone platinum wedding anniversary with a blacktie party for 100 family and friends.
