Watt the hero as Scots kids reach Elite round again

- By MARK WALKER

Scotland Under- 19s qualified for the Uefa Elite round for the sixth year in a row after a late leveller from captain Elliot Watt salvaged a 2-2 draw against Sweden.

Billy Stark’s side had breezed through their group with wins against hosts Wales and San Marino before yesterday’s match in Rhyl.

And it looked to be going to plan when Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour converted a firsthalf penalty.

But Scotland lost two goals in two minutes through Aiham Ousou and Pavle Vagic.

However, Wolves player Watt – who made his first-team debut for the Molineux club this season – saved the day with a late leveller to see Scotland win their group.

It means Scotland have qualified for the Elite round every year since 2013, but have failed to reach the finals every time.

Earlier this year they lost out in the Elite round in Germany, with Norway winning the group and they have also failed to qualify in Czech Republic, Austria, England and Belgium.

Now Stark’s boys will eagerly await the Elite round draw on 6 December, along with holders Portugal and top seeds Germany.

The other countries who have qualified are; Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, France, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and Wales.

Thefinals are in Armenia next July.
