Birthday of the first Sikh guru: Communities unite to mark special day
Indian Sikhs demonstrate their martial arts skills during a “nagar keertan” (holy procession) in Secunderabad, the twin city of Hyderabad, as part of celebrations marking 549th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Sri Guru Nanak Dev, which this year falls tomorrow.
Guru Nanak set up a unique spiritual, social, and political platform based on equality, fraternal love, goodness, and virtue.
His words are enshrined as 974 poetic hymns in the Guru Granth Sahib. Langar, a community kitchen hallmark of Sikh faith, is arranged at Gurudwaras by volunteers.
