Air pollution gets targeted across commuter towns
Councillors have approved 22 measures to reduce air pollution in four North Lanarkshire communities.
Motherwell town centre, Chapelhall, Coatbridge, including Whifflet, Shawhead and Kirkshaws, and Croy are all designated as having excess levels of particulate air pollution. These have been declared air quality management areas.
North Lanarkshire is a prime location for commuters to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling and has seen large amounts of private housing construction. These have caused “air quality challenges”.
