Range Rover reveals new Evoque
Range Rover has pulled the wraps off its new Evoque compact SUV. The second-generation Evoque is instantly recognisable but is based on new chassis architecture and comes with new drivetrain and technology.
Although its lines are similar to the previous model, the Evoque has been tweaked and refined with the addition of slim matrix LED headlamps, Velar-like flush door handles and 21-inch alloys.
Inside there’s more space thanks to the longer wheelbase of the Premium Transverse Architecture chassis and the boot is larger than before. The interior has also been heavily revised with the addition of twin 10-inch touch Pro Duo touchscreens and the option of various “technical textiles” that use recycled plastics as alternatives to leather. The new architecture has been developed for electrification, with a 48-volt mild-hybrid available at launch and there are plans for a plug-in hybrid model and a three-cylinder petrol engine to join the line-up next year.
The mild hybrid powertrain is available across the range with both petrol and diesel engines and official tests put CO2 emissions as low as 149g/km and fuel economy from 50.4mpg.
The Evoque also comes with a choice of four-cylinder Ingenium petrol and diesel engines ranging in output from 148bhp to 296bhp.
The new Evoque also features a host of new technology including “Smart Settings” which learns drivers’ habits over time and can adjust everything from seat position to media preference upon recognising a specific key or phone.
Also a first on the Evoque is the Clearsight rear-view mirror that transforms into an HD video screen to feed images from a rear-facing camera for times when visibility through the rear window is compromised. Prices for new Evoque start at £31,600 for a two-wheel-drive model with the 148bhp diesel engine and manual gearbox, rising to £40,350 for a 296bhp automatic.
