Done deal?

-

European leaders have approved the UK’S Brexit deal, clearing a symbolic hurdle in the country’s exit from the EU. Leaders of the 27 other members of the EU took less than 40 minutes to approve the draft documents at a special summit in Brussels, EU Council president Donald Tusk confirmed.

For Brussels it was a case of “just sign the bloody thing. Let them pay their £39 billion and let’s get shod of these mean little xenophobes as quickly as we can.”

Stable crushed wheat I rather suspect that this deal will be voted through by Westminster, in spite of all the posturing going on at the moment. It seems quite clear that in the UK people are sick to the eye teeth of all this nonsense, and just want an end to it so that as close to a normal life as possible can be resumed. By the time the vote is due, it will have become clear to all but the daftest MPS (and the DUP and SNP ones are probably included in that bunch) that to vote it down will make them into electoral toast.

I fear that you are just wishful thinking; there are too many MPS have stood against the deal publicly to back down, at least on the Euro-sceptic side, and as for Labour they want to turn a defeat on May’s deal into a call for a general election so it’s unlikely the Corbyn support will break against the whips and vote for the deal. Lib-dem and SNP are fully against the deal as are the DUP. The only possibility the deal has of getting through the vote is to get the public behind it.

Paul Mclean

This deal amounts to appeasement, nothing more or less...

Peter Mcgrouther Oh, what a travesty, That Great Britain has been felled can only be through treachery and deceit in high places. Never mind Theresa, she is merely a dupe, put in place to bring this about. Duty done, she will be discarded.
