Hundreds injured in Iranian earthquake
Iranian authorities says the number of injured in a magnitude 6.3 earthquake in western Iran has risen to at least 716.
No fatalities have yet been reported from Sunday night’s quake.
According to Iran’s state television, most of the injured were immediately released from hospitals and suffered only slight injuries. Some 37 people remained hospitalised yesterday.
More than 160 aftershocks occurred in the region, including two quakes above magnitude five. Dozens of rescue teams, including dogs, were deployed.
Dr Hossein Rahnimi said many of the injured also suffered panic attacks. The earthquake struck western Iran near its border with Iraq, damaging buildings and sending residents running into the streets.
