BBC error spurs Mcinally for replay

- By CRAIG STEWART

Peterhead manager Jim Mcinally has challenged his players to see off Morton in their Scottish Cup third-round replay at Balmoor tonight and prove the BBC wrong.

The broadcaster issued details of the fourth round on Saturday night and had the Greenock side marked down to face East Fife in January.

“I noticed after our 1-1 draw at Morton that the BBC had us knocked out already,” explained Mcinally, pictured. “Winning our replay would be a nice way to highlight that we are very much still in the cup.”

Mcinally reckons that, despite home advantage, Morton are still favourites to win tonight’s replay. “Our boys are working Monday and Tuesday,” he added. “Morton can prepare properly whereas I will not see the players until a couple of hours before kick-off.” Morton manager Jonatan Johansson is pleased to have another opportunity to progress. “I am happy to still be in the cup. We did not show enough quality to win on Saturday against a Peterhead side who were up for the game.”

A home tie with Dundee United lies in wait for the winners of the replay between Annan and Montrose.

Annan boss Peter Murphy is looking for his side to show that they have learned from Saturday’s goalless draw at Links Park. “Montrose are a good side but to get through we need to turn our spells on top in a game into goals,” he said.

The prospect of United visiting Links Park is an exciting one for Montrose but manager Stewart Petrie is not getting ahead of himself.

“Dundee United are a big club and we would have a full house,” he said. “It would be huge, but Annan want to progress just as much as us.”
