We have lived with this in Scotland since 2014 and now in the UK. No matter what the result of any subsequent referendum on either matter the country will remain completely divided. People will wonder whether it is worthwhile voting whilst others may take a more direct view. Politician­s must beware of the consequenc­es of overthrowi­ng a democratic vote just because they do not like the result.

Yawn. How much more Police Scotland is on standby to provide officers to Northern Ireland following Brexit amid concerns over delays at ports and airports.

The scaremonge­ring continues and gets more bizarre every day. Are Police Scotland just ensuring there is no shortage of Guinness?

634TDJ If the EU want to impose a hard border between the UK and the Irish republic, the onus is on them to police it. We can police anything coming into the country at the ports and airports, and the N Ireland police can see who leaves from their ports and airports and forewarn the authoritie­s here so they can put them back on a boat to the republic.
