He came off the bench for Kyle Lafferty, who didn’t do too badly, and turned the game with a goal and an assist; that’s exactly why he’s Steven Gerrard’s main man and why the club were so keen to get him tied down to a new deal in September.

Villarreal and Hearts are up next along with Aberdeen. December is going to be a seasondefining month but I reckon those three games will be the acid test of this side’s mentality, bottle and hunger for success. It’s nice to be in a position like this rather than having sacked a manager and written off the season like the last two.
