Traffic cone shatters bus windscreen

- By LUCINDA CAMERON

A bus driver “miraculously” escaped injury when his windscreen was shattered by a traffic cone thrown from the upper levels of a multi-storey car park.

Police are hunting two youths who were seen throwing the cone from the Wellgate car park in Meadowside, Dundee, at 1:35pm on Tuesday.

The object struck a number 29 Xplore Dundee bus travelling up the road, shattering the windscreen and showering the driver with glass.

Police said “miraculously” no-one was injured but said someone could have been killed.

A police spokesman said: “We cannot overstate how dangerous this reckless behaviour was.

“The cone has travelled a long distance from a great height, and if it had struck a person, they would have been very seriously injured or potentially killed.”

The cone was thrown from one of the upper levels of the car park, which has seven floors and is the equivalent of around four storeys tall.

Witnesses have told police they saw two male youths throwing the cone before running off.
