Glasgow family firm expands presence in north-east England

- By EMMA NEWLANDS

A bathroom and kitchen surface manufacturer and supplier has expanded in the northeast of England in response to customer demand after growing its Govan headquarters.

Rearo has moved its showroom and warehouse in the region from Gateshead to Washington, just outside New- castle, and has doubled the size of the premises to almost 11,000 square feet.

Trade and domestic customers will benefit from greater stock levels and faster turnaround times on orders, said the firm, which added that it will have enhanced access to commercial customers across the region.

The family firm, which started out in 1991, has a £10 million turnover and around 100 employees, supplies and makes kitchen and bathroom waterproof wall and ceiling surface products, as well as worktops and flooring ranges.

It also has showrooms in Shetland, Fife, Ayr, Inverness, and Newport in Wales.

And it recently added 2,000 sq ft to its Govan base in a £200,000 expansion, supported by Scottish Enterprise, that it expected to create ten jobs.

Neil Munro, manager of Rearo Gateshead, commented: “Our customers include householders and trade and commercial clients, and we are looking forward to welcoming them all into the new showroom.

“We are proud to be investing in the north-east, and of being a true UK manufacturing success story.” 0 Neil Munro: ‘A true UK manufacturing success story’
