USP Taste of the high life

-

Embo House in Sutherland has, for the first time, opened its doors as a holiday let.

The 16th-century grade-a listed house was an ancestral castle of the Clan Gordon.

With beautiful views across the Dornoch Firth and direct access to

the shoreline, it is also five minutes from Dornoch beach.

The original manor house was home to the Gordons of Embo for two hundred years.

It still holds the marriage stone, dated 1677 and bearing the arms of Sir Robert Gordon of Embo and his new wife, Dame Jean Leslie, so it makes for a romantic spot to pledge one’s troth and it is taking bookings to host picturesque weddings.

The elegant master bedroom with freestanding roll-top bath would certainly make for a perfect honeymoon suite.

For a large group, the house has public rooms with open fires, including a cedar-lined library,a drawing room, a formal dining room and games room complete with bar.

The bedrooms all have private bathrooms, ipod docks and

Bluetooth speakers, while the kitchen is contemporary with all mod cons.

The eight acres of land include a tree house, herb garden, pitching practice hole, a studio for art or yoga, and a detached summer house with fruit trees.

Embo House sleeps 16 people, and prices start from £2,900 per week.
