Hotel hypocrisy
The big hotels in Edinburgh are advertising their Hogmanay dinner events, with one quoting accommodation: £240 per person; £325 per per-
£355 per person (accommodation “package” starting from £910 per person for two nights B&B).
I’m sure a number of wellheeled local residents will be going along on New Year’s Eve, but assume the hotels are primarily aiming at tourists, who also require accommodation. This is just an indication of the sort of money they, and many other hotels in the city, are raking in over the festive season alone – it would be interesting to see where it all goes. They are being totally hypocritical in objecting to the proposal of a £1 per person per night tourist tax.
