Damon Albarn and his merry men – specifically ex-clash bassist Paul Simonon, former Verve guitarist Simon Tong and legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen, pictured above – return after an absence of more than a decade to make melancholic comment on Brexit with their bittersweet new album, Merrie Land, set in a fictional sepia-tinted place which looks a lot like Blackpool.
