Chemo care facing axe at hospital in Ayr

There is to be only one main cancer unit in Ayrshire, it has been revealed.

Chemotherapy treatment is to be axed at either Ayr or Crosshouse Hospital, a health board meeting heard yesterday. bosses at NHS Ayrshire & Arran are considering a huge shakeup of cancer services.

It was previously proposed Crosshouse Hospital would be home to the cancer unit, but bosses insist they are now also considering Ayr.

Non-executive board member Ian Welsh said there was “concern around” moving services away from Ayr.
