Red letter day: Shoes laid out in memory of Israeli women killed in acts of domestic violence

-

Hundreds of red shoes spread in a show of protest against violence toward women in Israel at Habima Square in Tel Aviv. A nationwide strike in protest of violence against women commemorating the 24 victims of domestic violence was made yesterday with thousands of men and women calling on the government to take action against domestic abuse. Azrieli Junction in Tel Aviv was closed to traffic, with demonstrators holding signs saying “stop killing women”. In Jerusalem, 50 women blocked the entrance to the city. About 200 protesters also gathered outside city hall in a defiant display in Be’er Sheve.
