Taxing proposal
Scots middle earners could face more tax hikes after Finance Secretary Derek Mackay said he “sensed” there is further scope to increase rates. Scots earning above £33,000 already pay more than elsewhere in the UK.
I have no huge issue paying a bit more tax if the extra money gets to the places it’s really needed. The problem is, I simply don’t trust the SNP to actually do that.
QA Man Scots paying more does not start at £33,000. It is circa £26,000.

Earn £26,001 and you pay more tax than RUK – fact.

Excellent point. It also brings into disrepute the figure of 55% of taxpayers paying less if they are using the £33k figure.
Colain Gurteson It’s time for Derek Mackay
and the SNP to dip into their independence war chest, or their futures fund, as they like to call it. Robbing the hardworking people of Scotland of their hardearned money needed to pay for the rising costs of basic living.
Wilburforce Rather than encouraging entrepreneurship by allowing those who get off their backsides to reap the rewards of their efforts, an SNP government is taking from the strivers to give to the skivers.
Munrobagger I had visions of Scotland transforming into a powerful Singapore-style economy, making Scots wealthy and obliterating poverty, but if this is their “vision” they can keep it. To raise more in tax, encourage highearners to locate in Scotland, don’t chase them away. A high earner with a home in Scotland and a flat in London can opt to pay RUK tax, which means Scotland gets nothing.
Uncle Monty “By freezing the higher rate tax threshold, the point at which hardworking Scots are forced to pay the 41p tax rate, we could raise additional tax revenue. This could be spent on the Scottish Government’s clear priorities.” Gaelic, spaceports and cash dished out to Malawi and Pakistan. No thanks.
