Humberstone leads the way for Oxford students

-

Oxford scored five tries as they cruised to a 38-16 victory over Cambridge in the men’s Varsity Match at Twickenham.

The Dark Blues denied Cambridge a hat-trick of wins as stand-off Tom Humberstone led the way with an 18-point haul, via a try, five conversions and a penalty. Dan Barley touched down twice and Barley’s fellow wing Tom Stileman also crossed, along with flanker Charlie Pozniak.

Light Blues skipper Nick Koster scored a consolation try, and No 10 Mike Phillips, who was sin-binned in the second half, booted three penalties, with Scottish back Chris Bell adding a conversion.

Cambridge, meanwhile, won the women’s Varsity Match as they followed up their victory last season with an 8-5 Twickenham triumph.

No 8 Emily Pratt scored a first-half try, with Alice Edgar adding a penalty to open up an eight-point lead, and Oxford could not claw it back despite a late touchdown from lock Katie Collis.
