Re: the just-an­nounced Burns and Be­yond fes­ti­val

The amount and dark­ness of the pro­fan­i­ties I would need to em­ploy to even scrape the sur­face of my con­tempt for yet more com­modi­tis­ing of pub­lic space knows no lim­its. So I will spare you that bur­den.

How­ever, I will say this; I was born in Kil­marnock ( strong Burns con­nec­tions through­out Ayr­shire), my mother was a Burns prize win­ner at school sev­eral times ( Dumfries) and there is more to Scot­land than us­ing Ed­in­burgh as a one-trick pony for uni­ver­sal tat and tourism. The “his­toric cen­tre” and “el­e­gance” the id­iots who gib­ber on about this stuff rely upon will soon dis­ap­pear if this con­tin­ues.
