Andrew Cranston: But the dream had no sound

- Susan Mansfield

This is the largest exhibition to date by Hawick-born Andrew Cranston, whose work captures moments within stories, painted (appropriately enough) on the covers of old hardcovered books. Like his old friend Peter Doig, he has a knack for evoking a moment and leaving you fascinated about what the rest of the story might be. Having taught for two decades at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, he is now attracting worldwide interest from collectors and this show is a great chance to see why. n Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh, until 21 December, 0131-556 4441
