Pensioner dies in early morning house blaze

A 76-year-old man has died in a house fire.

Emergency services were called to a building in Macduff, Aberdeenshire, at around 5am yesterday.

But despite the efforts of both firefighters and police, the man died at the scene.

Neighbouring properties in The Leys were evacuated as a precaution, but nobody else was injured and no other buildings were damaged.

Detective Inspector Sam Buchan of Police Scotland said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances.
