Dananjaya banned by ICC for illegal bowling action

Sri Lanka bowler Akilahas been banned from internatio­nal cricket with immediate effect because of an illegal bowling action, the Internatio­nal Cricket Council has announced.

The off-spinner’s action was reported during the first Test against England in Galle, which the tourists won by 211 runs. Dananjaya bowled 38.5 overs in the match, taking two wickets for 183 runs.

Dananjaya underwent an independen­t assessment of his action on 23 November in Brisbane, and it was found that his arm angle exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance.
