SRUC chief joins panel advising government on science policy

The head of Scotland’s rural colleges has been chosen to join senior figures drawn from across the science, business and academic communitie­s to advise the Scottish Government on sciencebas­ed strategy.

Professor Wayne Powell, principal and chief executive of SRUC, will join the Scottish Science Advisory Council in January and help advise on policy and priorities to support economic growth, tackle inequality, and raise the quality of life in Scotland.

He said: “I am looking

forward to contributi­ng to and supporting Scottish Government in enhancing Scotland’s status as a science and innovation

nation. The importance of evidence-based science advice to inform and guide policy has never been greater.”
