Gemmill happy with draw for U21 Euros

- By MARK WALKER

Scot Gemmill insists he is delighted with Scotland Under 21s’ European Championship draw after they avoided the big guns..

The young Scots will take on Croatia, Greece, Czech Republic, Lithuania and San Marino in their Euro 2021 qualifiers.

They will kick off next September with a double header of San Marino at home and Croatia away.

But Scotland at least avoided England and France, whom they have faced in the last two qualifying campaigns.

Manager Gemmill is confident his youngsters have nothing to fear from the draw.

He said: “Of course it’s a challenging draw, it always is, but we are satisfied with it.

“We have the nucleus of a good squad now. I think we have something like 12 players from the last campaign who are eligible to play in this one.

“And I believe this age group are a really talented bunch of players.

“I’d like to think that by the time we start the qualifiers even more of the youngsters will be established as firstteam players at their clubs.

“We have played both Croatia and the czech republic recently at different age groups so we have a fair idea what to expect.

“We’re looking forward to it and will give it a go.”
