#AMBERWARNING Scots braced themselves for a weekend of grim winter weather as an amber warning for snow and ice was announced for much of the country. Freezing rain, a rare occurrence which sees rainfall turn to ice almost instantly, prompted warnings of a risk to life.

@Btpeastscot added: “Weather Warning: An AMBER weather warning has been issued for Snow and Ice across much of Scotland this Saturday and Sunday. If you are travelling please be aware that your journey may be impacted. Stay safe, plan ahead and look out for your friends and family”

@NHSFIFE agreed: “With snow and ice warnings across Scotland this weekend, it’s worth bearing in mind who to turn to in the event you need healthcare assistance. Stay safe and look out for each other.”

@Scotambservice echoed: “The Met Office has issued an amber warning for freezing rain this weekend. Please take care when walking on pavements and driving to reduce the chances of an accident.”

@Jeanbartram advised: “Read the details of the Met Office weather warning. Freezing rain is RARE in the UK and is really dangerous.”

@Liamdutton explained: “Of greatest concern is risk of freezing rain in amber warning area shown below. Rain falling on frozen surfaces may quickly freeze, giving widespread ice. Very dangerous, as hard to see!”

Reaction continued to a night of mixed fortunes for Scotland’s representatives in European competition. Celtic and Rangers both lost to Austrian sides, but the Parkhead side went through despite their defeat at home to Salzburg as Rosenborg scored late to draw with Leipzig.

@Pjg_sport summarised: “The strength of Celtic’s EL group is there in black and white: Salzburg 14 pt lead in Austria; Leipzig 4th in Bundesliga and Rosenborg just clinched Norwegian title again 3 weeks ago. No weak links – as Leipzig discovered.”

@Celticfc tweeted: “Takk for det(thanks for that), @ Rbkfotball!”

@Gerrycarmody fumed: “Now admittedly, it’s a small amount but there are genuinely some Rangers fans who would quite happily see Gerrard leave today. Can’t put into words my frustration at that arrogance, sense of entitlement and impatience.”
